STRIKER SIGNS 25th June 2001
Twenty three year old 5ft 10in striker Stuart Connolly signed on the dotted line today, pending international clearance, to bolster the Doonhamers attack for the coming season. The striker has just completed a four year 'soccer' scholarship at Life University in Atlanta, Georgia, USA following a two year spell at Ayr United where he made his first team debut at the age of only sixteen.

John Connolly will of course have a good insight into the frontman's abilities as he doubles up as both Stuart's manager and as his father.
CHECK OUT CHESTER 24th June 2001
Our opponents in four weeks time are Chester-le-Street Town FC, if you don't know anything about the team then for a brief introduction visit their website at www.chester-le-street-townfc.co.uk.

The site doesn't contain any directions however for those of you planning to travel it is quite easy to find their Moor Park ground. Heading south from Gateshead on the A1M you leave the motorway at junction 63 and head towards Chester-le-Street, take the A167 and follow it towards Durham. Within a couple of miles you will drive under a railway bridge and the ground lies 500 yards further on on the left hand side. It is pretty well hidden from the road as it lies behind a pub called the Chester Moor. You actually have to drive through the pub car park to get to the ground along a rough track and into their compact car park.

NEW PLAYER 10th June 2001
John Connolly secured the signature of ex-Ayr United, Southampton, Brighton and Kingstonians central defender Derek Allan on a two year contract at lunchtime today. The six foot tall twenty six year old will bring some top class experience with him as he joins what is sure to be an extremely tight Queen's defensive setup for this coming season. He signed for Southampton for £75,000 in 1993 and made his premiership debut in a 2-0 win against Aston Villa with Matt LeTissier scoring both for the south coast side. He featured again that season against Aston Villa with the Saints winning 4-1 this time. Three seasons later and after an impressive loan spell he joined Brighton where he went on to make over seventy appearances, scoring a couple of goals on the way. He then joined Kingstonians in the Conference where he instantly became a fans favourite in his seventy two appearances and four goals.
FIXTURE CHANGE 8th June 2001
The pre-season friendly planned for the 21st July against Dunston Federation has been cancelled and in it's place will be a match against Chester-Le-Street. Problems with access to the ground that day at Dunston have forced the switch.
GRAY SIGNS 5th June 2001
Twenty seven year old right back Alan Gray signed on the dotted line yesterday afternoon to become Queen's third defensive signing of the close season. The six foot tall right sided defender joins from Workington Reds and has had spells with Darlington, Carlisle United and Doncaster. He is a native of Carlisle but spent some time in the USA on a sports scholarship at Richmond University in the mid-nineties.
A BIT QUIET TONIGHT 4th June 2001
If you're looking for something to do this evening then why not check out one of our pre-season opponents website's, the most difficult one to find was Dunston Feeration's but when we did get there it proved to be worth the visit. You can get to it at http://www.kfne17751.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/. It provides a fair bit of stastical information and more importantly a map of how to find the ground. Another interesting fact uncovered on our visit was that former Queen's midfielder Tony Nelson now features for the side.

BITS AND PIECES 2nd June 2001
Queen's defence of the Scottish Brewers Cup that they won last pre-season in the two day tournament at Annan will prove a more difficult task this season. The opponents are confirmed as Livingston, Hamilton and of course the hosts Annan.

The national press is full of news concerning former Queen's players with Rowan Alexander making the biggest headlines with Gretna's bid to take the place of the side where Alexander had his most successful spell, Paul Kinnaird then gives his backing to former Doonhamer Derek Townsley and advises Deggsie not to change his playing style because of criticism from the fans and Mick Dunlop also gets a mention in the smaller stories.
