TEAM NEWS 29th November 2001
Team news this evening, following the regular training session, is that new signing from Ayr United, Gordon Burns will be in the squad for this Saturday's Border derby at Palmerston against Berwick, Jim Thomson will obviously miss out following a three hour operation this afternoon to insert a plate in his jaw, but other than these changes everyone else is fit and suspension free.

It will undoubtedly be a tough clash against the English side as they have some players of quality in their ranks and their league position is surely a false one. A familiar face to Queens fans will be that of Craig Feroz who has moved to the Borderers since his loan spell at Palmerston, coming in the other direction was Martin Glancy and he will be hoping for a starting place this weekend following his brief appearance from the bench last Saturday in which he almost managed to steal the points for the Doonhamers with a couple of efforts in the last few minutes.
NEW SIGNING 28th November 2001
Midfielder Gordon Burns has joined Queens today from Ayr United. The six foot one, twenty two year old has progressed through the Ayr youth system and has made twenty three first team appearances, six of those when on loan to Partick Thistle.

He has played at Palmerston once before when he turned out for Partick in the last game of season 1998/99 in the 2-2 draw.

JT INJURY 27th November 2001
Club Chairman Ronnie Bradford has expressed his concern over the happenings during the one all draw with Stenhousemuir on Saturday. In particular Ronnie has made it clear that he is unhappy with the manner in which the referee handled the injury to Jim Thomson. As Ronnie says, "Despite being told by the Doctor that the injury to the player was serious, the referee did not even discuss the incident with his assistant who was well placed to see the incident, to me that is a failure in his duty to protect the players. When we approached him after the match both the assistant and the referee claimed that they did not see anything, despite everyone else inside the ground being well aware of what happened. However I am quite happy to leave the matter in the hands of the SFA."

Ronnie also confirmed that Jim will undergo an operation in Dumfries on Thursday and only after that can a timescale be put on his recovery.
JT INJURY STATUS 26th November 2001
Jim Thomson has been left with a broken left cheekbone following his aerial challenge with Stenhousemuir's Ian Ferguson on Saturday. The stopper will be operated on in Dumfries on Thursday to hold the bones in position. He will obviously be missing for a number of matches as a result.

AFTER MATCH REACTION 24th November 2001
John Connolly
"We only have ourselves to blame as we should have been four up at half time, they scored from what was a dubious penalty, but if you do not finish teams off then that is what happens in football. Fortunately after seeing the rest of the results we do not seem to have lost too much ground, but it just goes to show what a tight league this is."

Stuart Davidson
"I am delighted to have scored for Queens, it is my first goal for the club and my first in senior football. It is a pity that we didn't manage to hang on for the full points."

Jim Thomson
Jim was carried off the pitch after an aerial clash in the sixty fifth minute with the Warriors Ferguson, he will be spending the night in hospital as a precaution.
WARREN MOVES BACK TO 'TON 23rd November 2001
Warren Hawke, this afternoon, completed his transfer back to former club Morton for an undisclosed fee. The front man joined Queens from the Greenock side in late 1999 and was in part responsible for the escape from relegation that the side managed that season.

Whilst never a prolific goalscorer his intelligent play from midfield and occasionally upfront made him a fans favourite. This season though has seen him plagued by injury and unable to force his way back into the first team for a regular starting role.

All Queens fans will wish Warren all the best as he returns to the side where he spent some of his most successful seasons.
TEAM NEWS 22nd November 2001
The latest from the training ground tonight is that Martin Glancy is fully fit an available for selection, Jamie Campbell will not feature as he dislocated his shoulder in training on Tuesday evening and will sit out for the next couple of matches. This raises an interesting problem for JC as Under 18's 'keeper Stuart Robertson is presently recovering from an injury and whilst he trained this evening with the first team it is touch and go whether he will be fit enough to take a place on the bench on Saturday. The solution though may lie in an unexpected place, Jon Crawford is an accomplished 'keeper and actually turned out four times last term for Arbroath between the sticks. It may well be that if anything happens to Colin Scott in the course of the game, or indeed warm-up, central defender Crawford may be asked to take over. [Jon Crawford]
It has also been confirmed that Murray McDowell's loan deal has been ended and he has been allowed to return to Partick Thistle.
MAN OF THE MATCH 19th November 2001
Star man this weekend will come as no surprise to anyone as two goal John O'Neill wins the internet fans award by some way. In second place the scoring could not separate Peter Weatherson and Jim Thompson whilst third place went to Alan Gray.

REACTION 17th November 2001
Speaking to Queen's Press Officer Bill Goldie this evening, John Connollly said, "It was a very satisfactory performance, we played exceptionally well in the first thirty minutes and more than deserved our two goal lead, we lost a bad goal to let Morton back in but over the piece we thoroughly deserved our victory."

The next game will therefore be against Alloa at Recreation Park on December 8th after they defeated Dumbarton today.

Highlights from the match can be seen on BBC Sportscene this evening.

Congratulations also to Bill Sims Threave Rovers in their win against Wick Academy, another match that you can see on Sportscene this evening but commiserations to Toby Pattersons Tarff Rovers who found Montrose just too strong for them.
QUEENS ON TOUR 16th November 2001
The "Queens on Tour" section of the programme has proved an outstanding success and this season is already overbooked. However in order not to disappoint anyone I may have to print two fans come nearer the end of the season so be patient your photo will appear if you are wearing a Queens strip/hat scarf etc

TEAM NEWS 16th November 2001
Following last night's training session all players are fit and John Connolly has no selection worries. The only player that is unable to play is Martin Glancy as he was signed within the last two weeks and is thus ruled out of this round of the Tennents Scottish Cup.

The club have also made Warren Hawke available for transfer.
ROGUE TRADER 12th November 2001
A stall at the Dumfries town-centre market on Saturday afternoon was selling Queen of the South souvenirs (large key rings, coasters, fridge magnets etc) some featuring the official Q.O.S. crest and others the image from the Queens website. Don't know if this is legal but no doubt John Paterson from the Palmy shop will be keeping an eye out for this stall if it returns. P.S. They actually sold all their stock of Queens memorabilia.

REACTION 10th November 2001
As Queens boss John Connolly left a dejected bunch of players in the home dressing room this evening he reflected on today's performance and commented, "that's us back to the real world".
TEAM NEWS 8th November 2001
The latest information from the training ground tonight is that John Connolly is hopeful of having a full squad to select from for this weekends clash at Palmerston versus Cowdenbeath. Peter Weatherson returns from a two match suspension, Graham Connell returns from his business trip to Rome last weekend and Colin Scott is hopeful of being fully fit again. New signing, forward Martin Glancy, will also be added to the squad.
BADGE PARADE 7th November 2001
Over the seasons there have been a number of enamelled badges available for Queens fans, but has anybody got a definative full set, well maybe this is the collection that comes closest, the badges shown belong to Queens programme editor Bruce Wright and contains twenty six in total,(multiple versions of some shown), with the oldest being sixty seven years old, there is another badge that is known of but it presently resides in Dumfries Museum. Does anyone know of any others? if so let us know.

As well as the enamel badges there are a number of metal badges produced in the eighties that Queens Historian and Museum Curator Ian Black has assembled, there are a few more in the set and Ian would like to hear from anyone who has any of the versions not shown here. There was also a Queens necklace and bracelet in the same style which Ian still has in the original packaging.

STRIKERS SIGNED 6th November 2001
John Connolly has made a double signing this evening as he brings in two strikers to Palmerston, straight into the first team squad goes the speedy Martin Glancy formerly of Berwick, NSI Runavik (Faroe Isles), Clydebank, Inverness Cally and Dumbarton and into the Under 18 side goes Lennie Walker a youngster from Hamilton. Glancy has signed until the end of the season.
MAN OF THE MATCH 5th November 2001
Not surprisingly a low scoring weekend for the players of Queen of the South in the Man of the Match Competition, infact the lowest score since the memorable Steven Leslie's 23 minutes against Livvie in the 7-0 Scottish Cup drubbing two seasons ago was recorded by Jamie Campbell.

Top of the pile was Joe McAlpine, followed by the industrious Warren Hawke and followed up by Jim Thomson in third, the Player of the Season League Table has been updated and can be found via the Man of the Match link.

The scores for the rest of the side make depressing reading but are as follows:
Campbell
Rating: 2.59
Allan
Rating: 4.25
S1
Crawford
Rating: 4.20
Thomson
Rating: 5.00
Atkinson
Rating: 4.50
