EARLY TEAM NEWS 29th August 2001
The early team news ahead of Sunday's re-arranged fixture versus Stenhousemuir is as follows.

Firstly the bad news, Warren Hawke will be out for at least another two weeks and Des McKeown has had a recurrence of his hamstring injury and will also miss out.

Now the good news, the Craig Feroz deal was signed and sealed just before kick-off on Saturday so we should have him available until the end of September, Derek Allan is now fit again and will be included in the squad and John O'Neill returns from his one match suspension to take his place in the squad.

AFTER MATCH REACTION 24th August 2001
John Connolly
"It was a hard won match, and a big boost to us to win this one, particularly as it is a big scalp. At half time I said to the players that one goal would win it and I was proved right"

Paddy Atkinson
"I am delighted for the fans that we have chalked up our first win, particularly as it was at home, I was also pleased that it was me who scored the goal."
STEVE ARCHIBALD SIGNS 24th August 2001
The Cumberland News reports that Queens will be signing up 16 year old Carlisle lad Steve Archibald who like his namesake is a prolific goalscorer. The Harraby CC youngster has been attracting the interest of league clubs including Tranmere where he had a trial and was apparently spotted by the Dumfries youth coaches whilst playing for the Carlisle side in the youth tournament in Ayr earlier in the year.

The youngster holds the Carlisle Youth League scoring record with 120 goals in a season, although last season he managed a meager 54.
TEAM NEWS 23rd August 2001
The main news this evening is that Craig Feroz will play on Saturday, either as a trialist or on a one month loan from Livingston, some minor loose ends remain to be tied up but John Connolly assures us that the impressive front man who trained with the squad this evening will feature.

Some other issues have also been resolved following tonight's training session. Definitely in the squad are Des McKeown and Stuart Davidson as both have now recovered sufficiently to be considered, whilst definitely out are Warren Hawke and Derek Allan through injury and John O'Neill through suspension.

MAKEOVER COMPLETE (ALMOST) 23rd August 2001
You will have noticed by now that there has been a bit of a makeover of the site, we hope that the changes that we have made make it easier for you to get around. Ther will undoubtedly be some teething problems and if you have a problem with the new site then please email us on qosfc@doonhamers.fsnet.co.uk.

Whilst some of the sections are not quite complete, for instance the new password system for members isn't finished and the new Fan Club list isn't yet complete most areas are functioning. All of the features that we have provided previously remain and in addition we have added some new pages, these include:

Q&A
We often have site visitors emailing us and asking about players from the past who often were related to them, Queens Historian Ian Black does a lot of digging and usually finds out the information that the person asking is looking for, we will now publish the details of all of these enquiries and possibly get some more feedback from other fans about the players asked about.

TRACKER
We always know where a player has come from but often are unable to trace where they have gone to after Queens, this new feature will hopefully allow us to keep a track of where all former Doonhamers end up once they leave the Queens, it will require your input though and to kick it off we have entered a few names.

DOWNLOADS
As well as the Windows wallpaper that we brought to you last season we have now added some unique Queen of the South screen savers, there are four options at present although some may be superseded as we develop some more sophisticated screen savers for you.

SEARCH
You can now search the entire Queen of the South website, just like a search engine enter a phrase into the search field and press return, you will be presented with a listing of all of the occurrences of the word you searched on and you then simply click on the link to see the page you want.

ABOUT US
We have added a small section where you will find a who's who of Queen of the South and a little bit on how we were originally formed.

FAQ
Short for Frequently Asked Questions, obviously this section of the site will increase as we receive more questions relating to the operation of the site.

TECHIE
Helps to explain a few of the technical issues with the new site, for instance the best screen resolution to view with and some other bits and pieces that might help you to set up your PC for optimum viewing.
MAN OF THE MATCH 20th August 2001
Craig Feroz has proven an instant hit with the Queen's faithful present to witness his performance at Cappielow on Saturday. Playing as a trialist whilst a deal to sort out a loan spell with the Doonhamers is concluded, the Livvie forward proved a handful for the 'Ton defence. Close behind was another fans favourite John O'Neill who had an eventful afternoon with two goals and two bookings to his name meaning that he got the clean bath water. Third place was taken by Jon Crawford who is already establishing himself as one of our star performers this season with yet another rock steady display at the back.

The results from this week mean that the Player of the Season League Table has closed up a little bit, check the MoM link for the full details, the scoring for all the other players went as follows:

NEW FACE 18th August 2001
The trialist listed in today's team at Morton was none other than Livingston's Craig Feroz (right), the Aberdonian forward started his league career at Brechin City before moving on to Livvie where he has been since 1998. In the past two seasons he has spent loan spells at Stranraer, Ross County and most notably Stirling Albion where he spent most of the season last term.

He was listed as a trialist today as a deal to secure his services on loan has not yet been concluded, it is hoped that the details will be tied up this week that will see him agree to come to Palmerston on loan.
AWAY SHIRT ON SALE NOW 17th August 2001
The new away shirt has now come in and is immediately available for purchase through the Club Shop, you can order it on-line or visit Palmerston during normal business hours during the week or from the Club Shop behind the Main Stand on match days.
TEAM NEWS 16th August 2001
Heading towards this weekend's clash with unbeaten Morton at Cappielow it's only bad news on the injury front following the intensive training session held at Palmerston on Tuesday evening. The news is that John O'Neill is doubtful as he struggles to shake off a slight knock, Des McKeown similarly is struggling to make the squad following his injury picked up at Hamilton, whilst both Derek Allan and Stuart Davidson will definitely be missing due to injuries.

DOUBTFUL
MAN OF THE MATCH 13th August 2001
The unanimous choice for Man of the Match from Saturday's match versus Forfar was midfield playmaker John O'Neill, despite the fact that he only entered the fray with twenty four minutes to make an impact. Second place goes to Paddy Atkinson for a storming wing back performance with Derek Allan being the star man in defence and taking third place overall.

The Player of the Season League table, available via the MoM link, has also been updated and shows Jim Thomson with a commanding lead, the rest of the scoring from Saturday went as follows:

DOONHAMERS SCRAP 11th August 2001
Two former Queen's players began an eighteen man altercation in the English Second Division today which resulted in both being booked for their part in the trouble. Andy Thomson, who also scored the match winning goal and Dumfries lad Peter Handyside who once played as a trialist for Queens were said to be the instigators of the dust up at Loftus Road wher QPR defeated Stoke City 1-0.
LATE TEAM NEWS 10th August 2001
The latest from the training ground is that Derek Allan will hopefully be fit enough to feature in tomorrow's squad as will Graham Connell and Stuart Davidson, however definitely missing will be Des McKeown who is still struggling with the hamstring injury picked up last weekend at New Douglas Park and Mark Patterson who picked up a strain in midweek at New Broomfield.

WEEKEND PREVIEW 9th August 2001
This weekend sees Queens open their home league campaign with the visit of Forfar Atletic to Palmerston. The Loons took the honours three times out of four in the league last term and have consistently proven themselves as a bit of a bogey team for us and with the quality of signing that they have made during the summer they are sure to be tough opponents.

Match Sponsors for Saturday are the club's solicitors Braidwoods who offer a wide range of services including Estate Agency and Independent Financial Advice. Robin and his family are regulars at Palmerston and here's hoping the team give them something to celebrate against Forfar on Saturday.

The match ball sponsor is the Auchenlarie Holiday Park.

Team news for Saturday will follow after this evenings training session.
MAN OF THE MATCH 9th August 2001
Winner of the midweek Man of the Match competition for the game at Airdrie was Jim Thomson to give him a 100% record in competitive games this season so far, in second place came 'keeper Colin Scott with a solid performance and in third place Stuart Davidson who had his first few minutes of the season following his injury.

The Player of the Season League Table will not be updated until the weekend but needless to say Jim Thomson has increased his lead at the top of the table. The rest of the scores were as follows:
Scott

PICKERING LEAVES 7th August 2001
Despite the offer of a new contract Stephen Pickering has decided that he would prefer the chance to play regular first team football and has left the club by mutual agreement. He will be joining Spennymoor in the Northern League.
TEAM NEWS 6th August 2001
John Connolly tells us tonight that both Des McKeown with a hamstring injury and Derek Allan with a groin injury will not be in the squad for tomorrow nights Bell's Challenge Cup clash at New Broomfield against Airdrieonians.

Back in the squad however will be both Stuart Davidson and Graham Connell with others who missed out on Saturday also making an appearance in the squad.

Remember that it is a 7.45pm kick-off.
CUP DRAW 6th August 2001
The draw was made for the first round of the CIS Insurance League Cup today and saw Queens receive another away tie, this time though not at Airdrie but at East Stirlingshire, a team we last faced in the League Cup in 1969/70 season, winning 2-0 at Palmerston, and in the league in season 1993/94.

John Connolly was satisfied with the draw although he commented that a home tie would have been nice, although a trip to Falkirk is not too bad, particularly when compared with Stranraer's midweek trip up to Elgin.
MAN OF THE MATCH 6th August 2001
A man who picked up plenty of Man of the Match awards during his previous spell at the club has set the pace again this term with a large winning margin. Jim Thomson scoops the award and goes straight to the top of the Player of the Season league table with a skin saving performance in the heart of the defence at the New Douglas Park.

In second place came goalscorer Peter Weatherson with Thomson's central defensive partner Jon Crawford taking third for his solid perfomance.

LAST MINUTE TEAM NEWS 3rd August 2001
John Connolly goes into the first game of the new season with almost a full squad to pick from. The only players carrying injuries are Stuart Davidson who picked up his twist whilst warming up for the Livingston match in the Annan Tournament and Graham Connell who so far has managed only forty five minutes at Workington due to niggling injuries.

As for team selection the manager is giving nothing away and with such a strong squad the side is likely to see changes to suit the opposition whenever possible. Defensively the three at the back are pretty settled, it is in midfield that there may be changes and upfront the question will be who will partner Peter Weatherson. Fortunately there are a number of options available to John Connolly.

We will be visiting a Hamilton side who will be playing their first competitive match in Hamilton for many years and in their new purpose built stadium. The full timers will be buoyed up for the big occasion and a bumper crowd is expected to cheer on the home side, couple that with the expectant and large Queens support making their shortest journey of the year and a terrific atmosphere is anticipated.
PLAYER SPONSORS WANTED 2nd August 2001
With the new season upon us there are still a few players available for individuals, groups of individuals or companies to become their personal kit sponsor.

It doesn't have to be a company, anyone or even a couple of you together could share a player sponsorship.

For more information contact Margaret or Ian Heuchan on 01556 504569.
PHOTO-CALL 31st July 2001
It was photo-call time at Palmerston tonight with every member of the squad having their photograph taken by most of the local press photographers, so expect some fresh new photo's in the weekend papers.
