Heading Home 1st August 2008
Sitting in Gatwick Airport with flights on my mind after today's draw, for which we would like to thank David Taylor and his colleagues at UEFA for their hospitality and efficiency.

I have spoken with TMG, our official travel partner, and we are aiming to have a club package available for early next week. We will have a meeting tomorrow to finalise a few details with the club party and aim to get the prices out to fans as soon as possible. As it stands, the official plane will be flying out with the team aboard on Monday morning and returning after the game on Tuesday. Everything is yet to be finalised though, so watch this space.

We're looking forward to working with FC Nordsjaelland, whom we met today and whom were extremely prompt at arranging away ticket allocations and pricing - which makes life easier for the club and the supporters.

Denmark bound 1st August 2008
For our opening sojurn in the UEFA Cup Queens will travel to Denmark to take on FC Nordsjalland, but before that we will meet the Danish side at home. We'll be competing in the Northern Section and our first game will be played at Airdrie on Thursday, 14th August and the return on the 26th August and not the 28th as was first muted as two other sides from Copenhagen are playing on the 28th.

It will be a journey into the unknown but Gordon Chisholm said, "We knew earlier what pot we'd be in, so it didn't come as too much of a surprise. We were aware we'd be up against a side from Denmark, Sweden or Finland.

"Just after the draw was made it was pandemonium--my phone never stopped ringing. I would have preferred the first leg away but it wasn't to be. It's will be an adventure for us all--it will be difficult but not unwinnable. We'll prepare professionally and do our research. I notice Nordsjalland are playing on Sunday, Wednesday and Sunday, so I'll be doing my utmost to get out there to Denmark and see them for myself. As I say, it won't be easy but we're confident and we'll be give it our best shot".

Team News 31st July 2008
Steve Tosh returns to the Queens' squad for their opening league match against Airdrie United at Palmerston on Saturday. Jamie Adams however has a knock and is listed as 50-50.

But the good news is that Bob Harris has had a good report from the specialist on his knee scan which had Gordon Chisholm breathing a sigh of relief. "I feared another cruciate but thank goodness everything is OK" said the manager. "We lost Jamie Adams with cruciate damage last season and he was out for a year. Bobby will resume training on Monday and so too will Neil Scally".

After hearing the Challenge Cup draw which saw us land an away tie against Dunfermline 'Chis' sighed, "It's probably the hardest game we could have got, but there's nothing we can do about it. I was really hoping for a home tie at Palmerston where we fear no one. But I don't know when exactly we'll get it played as our fixture list is already so congested. However, I am glad we now have a sponsor for the Challenge Cup--it's long overdue".

First steps into Europe 31st July 2008
Queen of the South took their first steps into Europe today, when Davie Rae, Craig Paterson, Billy Hewitson and myself made our way to Geneva.

We arrived safely into the scorching heat of Geneva this afternoon, and are in keen preparation for tomorrow's draw in Nyon.

I've been working hard on the logistics for the campaign, and myself and the Chairman will be concentrating on securing the best allocation for our travelling fans, as well as making sure we offer the hospitality expected of Scottish clubs to our opponents.

The draw tomorrow is at 1'o'clock Swiss time, and you should be able to watch the draw on satellite tv or on the internet.

We'll be heading straight back after the draw, and the Chairman has already been telling us that he had flying lessons shortly after he retired from farming - so should there be a problem with our flights, there's no way we'll be missing the Airdrie game!

New website 30th July 2008
Our new look website is ready to be launched, having been completely revamped by Digitl over the summer. However, because of the upcoming UEFA Cup draw and the importance of the subsequent information that will have to be released for news, ticketing and travel - we have made the executive decision that we will prolong the site for another week until all the information has been released into the public domain.

This way people will be able to find all the information they need for planning their trip without the added need to navigate a new website into the bargain.

Keep watching this space.

Round up 30th July 2008
The draw for the Second Round of the ALBA Challenge Cup was made today and pitched Queens into the tie of the round with an away draw against Dunfermline. The date of the tie has yet to be finalised as the planned date is just prior to the UEFA Cup tie so a re-arrangement will be necessary.

Bob Harris has had a very good report back from his knee scan and should be back in training very soon.

The ALBA Challenge Cup 30th July 2008
The Scottish Football League welcomes MG ALBA as the new Title Sponsor of the League Challenge Cup

The Scottish Football League are delighted to welcome MG ALBA as the new title sponsor of the Challenge Cup for season 2008/2009. The Challenge Cup will now be re-named The ALBA Challenge Cup.

This new partnership will run for this season's competition with options for renewal for further seasons.

This new partnership will allow us to significantly increase the total prize fund for this year's competition, but more importantly will include two live broadcasts, of one Semi-Final and the Final itself.

Our aim has always been to improve the coverage and profile of the Challenge Cup and to increase the awareness of the true community spirit attached to the competition. By rescheduling most of the rounds to Saturdays or Sundays on international weekends, we are giving the competition its own unique place in the calendar where possible.

This new partnership links the community aims of both organisations and provides live coverage of two very important games in the competition.

I would like to welcome MG ALBA to The Scottish Football League, and look forward to the remainder of The ALBA Challenge Cup.

League season kicks off 29th July 2008
Gordon Chisholm is looking to 'Carry on where we left off at Berwick' when we face Airdrie United in our opening league fixture on Saturday.

Said the manager, "To score five goals away from home in any match is an achievement in itself. A good start to the season is always so important and we must build on that and carry on the winning habit.

"We face Airdrie this weekend and it's always great to win that first league encounter and get three points on the board--especially in front of our own fans. In the latter stages of last season we'd turned Palmerston into a fortress and I want it to be like that again.

"I know the Airdrie manager, Kenny Black, very well and I'm sure he'd love to come down and surprise us.The opening league match is always a hard one to predict but Airdrie have a lot of new faces in their squad and we'll be facing somewhat of an unknown quantity.

"I'd like to think we could improve on last season's 4th place but they'll be some tough competition out there. I saw St Johnstone play Burnley and they looked pretty good. They have a fair squad which gives them lots of options. Dundee, of course, can never be ruled out and pesonally I think it could be tighter than ever at the top this time around.

"If we can steer clear of injuries and suspensions I think we have a stronger squad than last season and could do really well. But one worry is Bobby Harris who went off today for a scan on his knee--so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed it's nothing too serious".

The manager admits to be very excited about playing in Europe and describes it as, "A great experience for all concerned". He adds , "I was there as manager of Dundee United, but never as a player. There's some tremendous players out there who never ever got the opportunity of competiting in Europe so I'll be telling our lads to enjoy the challenge.

"I'd really like to be drawn against one of the lesser teams in the opening round which would give us a better chance to progress to the group stages. We must endeavour to make the most of this adventure as it may never happen again.

"But, having said that, we're there on merit as Scottish Cup finalists! This time last season no Queens' fan would ever have dreamed we'd make it to the semi-final, far less the final, and be in the draw for the UEFA Cup. It just shows how the club has grown in stature--so let's all enjoy it when we can".

NI Milk Cup 29th July 2008
Congratulations to the Queen of the South Junior Squad who are presently in Northern Ireland competing in the annual NI Milk Cup International Youth Football Tournament. Following Monday's 2-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle, the boys this afternoon defeated Dundalk 6-1 with goals from Grant Middlemiss (3), Habib Abdul (2) and Scott Steele. This means they have gained six points from a possible six and, with the best goal difference, the boys qualify first of 24 teams for the quarter finals which will be played on Wednesday. This is the first time in five years of entering the tournament that the Queens team have reached the last eight.

Anyone interested can follow the progress of the squad on the official Milk Cup website http://www.nimilkcup.org/

Good start in Ireland 28th July 2008
Queens' youngsters got off to a good start with a 2-1 win over Plymouth Argyll in the annual Milk Cup Youth Tournament in Northern Ireland today. James McHarrie blasted them into the lead with a 25 yard rocket on the quarter hour mark and in the 25th minute Dean Thompson made it 2-0, netting from the penalty spot.

Plymouth, managed by former Scotland and Aston Villa player Alan Evans, reduced the leeway from a free-kick but Queens held on to claim victory. Man of the match was Nikola Rajovic our younh Serbian goalkeeper.

Match reaction 26th July 2008
Queens paid their first visit to Berwick in close on seven years and won comfortably in this Challenge Cup tie. We led 2-0 at half time with goals from Sean O'Connor in twelve and Stewart Kean in thirty two minutes. The hosts pulled one back through Ian Little just two minutes into the second half but a brilliant 1-2 by O'Connor and Kean in a five minute spell on the hour mark and Craig Barr made it 5-1 ten minutes from time with his debut goal in a Queens jersey. Kean, another newcomer, this season has now netted five goals in five outings - so things are looking good.

Speaking after the game Gordon Chisholm said, "We displayed the right attitude out there this afternoon and played some really good stuff. We knocked the ball about well and though we lost a sloppy goal just after half-time which gave them a lift, after the third went in I felt it was game over.

"Football's all about taking chances and we did that today. Berwick's never an easy place to come to and we showed them the utmost respect. But a 5-1 victory breeds confidence and keeps the boys' winning mentality going. The new boys all did well - infact everyone did well - and we followed up a good pre-season with a decisive win in our first competitive encounter.

"We now have four recognised strikers who can all score goals and when Dobbs gets the ball at his feet in the penalty area he's lethal - even though he didn't score today."

Attendance - 655 with 340 in the visiting support.

Shock of the round was Alloa's 2-1 win over Dundee while Ross County knocked out the holders, St Johnstone, 2-1 at Dingwall.

Another keeper signed 25th July 2008
Queens today signed goalkeeper Cameron Bell (right) from Kilmarnock on loan until the 31st December. Cammy, as he is know, is no stranger to Palmerston as he was born in Dumfries and was on our books as a youngster before moving to Kilmarnock in 2002.

Now 21 he was in our squad as a trialist for the past couple of games and will be on the bench tomorrow at Berwick.

Bill Goldie
BERWICK BOUND 24th July 2008
Unbeaten in our four pre-season friendlies--goals for 11, goals against 1. Understandably Gordon Chisholm was happy with that but being the perfectionist that he is the manager felt we could have scored more against Queen's Park at Hampden on Tuesday night. And he added, "Perhaps our goals came too early but a just feel we 'took our foot of the pedal' after going two up. We are capable of better performances but, having said that, over the four matches I'm satisfied with our progress and the results".

However, the season will kick-off in earnest with a visit to Berwick on Saturday and we must guard against complacency as we went out against Clyde in the opening round of the Challenge Cup last season. But the manager insists, "Between injuries and suspensions we had about seven player missings at that time and we don't have that problem this time around. I signed two ex-Clyde lads this week to boost our squad. Both impressed me as trialists and it only took less than a minute for Gary Arbuckle to find the target against Queen's Park. Michael McGowan is a versatile player equally at home in defence and midfield.

"Our two opening fixtures are so important! We had a bad start last season so we'll be going all out for a win at Berwick and three points at home to Airdrie next Saturday. We want to start off in style and 'hit the ground running'.

"The players are looking sharp and in good shape and everyone is working hard at training. We have a pool of 19 at present but we still require another keeper. I'm hoping to bring in Cammy Bell, on loan. I've been quite impressed with him so I'll be having a word with Kilmarnock as to his availability. On top of that I'd love to sign two other players I fancy.

"Neil Scally is still sidelined of course, but I reckon he'd resume training in a couple of weeks time. I rested Gerry McLaughlan against Burnley but he featured at Hampden on Tuesday night. He's just turned 19 and I have high hopes for the lad--he shows a lot of potential. Jamie Adams is another young player I rate highly. He's working like a Trojan at training just now and I'm delighted how he's responding after that horrific injury last season.

"Having a stronger pool of players allows me more options and with such a busy August coming up we'll need them all. We now have four strikers which will give me more variation up front and our defence looks settled and looks strong having only conceded a single goal in the four 'warm up' matches. So, like all Queens' supporters, I'm really looking forward to the big kick-off and I trust you'll all be right behind the team from the first kick of the ball".

Car Parking at Palmerston 23rd July 2008
From the 2nd August 2008, when we kick off season 2008/09 against Airdrie United, Queen of the South will be operating a charge on our carpark site.

The Chairman and Board of Directors have made this decision so as to keep Queen of the South in line with the other teams in our division whom operate a car parking charge, as well as to cater for the increased cost the club now has to bear from our newly acquired piece of land.

In line with our matchday prices for adults, children and concessions being amongst the cheapest in the division and with the view that these prices have been frozen by the Chairman this year, charges have been drawn up that reflect our commitment to value for money.

All public vehicles wishing to park must use the Lochfield Road entrance to the car park, and will be subject to a charge of:

£2 per car

£5 per minibus

£10 per coach

This area will be ticketed and patrolled during the matchday by experienced event stewards.

The club carpark directly in front of the grandstand and beside the Portland Road terrace will be for club and footballing officials, players, and hospitality guests only.

Similarly, the areas behind the Portland Road terrace and the area beside the supermarket loading entrance will no longer be available for public parking.

All supporters requiring a disable car parking space should contact the Club Secretary.

Apologies 22nd July 2008

The website has recently been moved on to the new web design team, (Digitl), servers and we were not able to achieve a connection tonight until 11.00pm despite having the report and news items ready to publish by 9.30pm. Hopefully these are just teething problems.

Hampden again 22nd July 2008
The last time Queens were at Hampden 48,821 packed in to see us play Rangers in the Cup Final, so it must have been all so different tonight with less than 200 there for our final friendly against Queen's Park.

As it turned out Queens recorded a 2-0 victory over their hosts with Gary Arbuckle making a dream debut and scoring in under a minute to open the scoring and then Stephen Dobbie completing the scoring in the 20th minute with a great strike. So we complete our pre-season unbeaten in our four matches.

Two more sign 22nd July 2008
Queens tonight signed two former Clyde players, Gary Arbuckle and Michael McGowan. They turned out as trialists for us in Saturday's match against Burnley and both have now put pen to paper on one year contracts.

Nice one Ryan 21st July 2008
On his way back down south to Lancaster last night, Ryan McCann stopped off at the New Bazaar in the Whiesands to hand over those now famous boots from the Dundee cup-tie. It was the ones he wore when he scord from 84-yard to ensure Queens a memorable 2-0 victory and had promised them for the 'Molly's Wish' fund.

The New Bazaar Doonhamers had put them up for aution and we believe a sum of £275 is already on the table. Both boots are autographed with 84 yards printed on them.

Despite the fact that Ryan is now playing with Morecambe it was good that he kept his word and made a specail detour to hand the boots over.

Molly's dad, Mark Armstrong, was delighted when we passed on the good news and although the fund officially closed at the weekend he said that there were still a few donations still to come to add to the figure of £41,000 already raised which will go to the toddler's three treatment centres in Dumfries, Glasgow and Birmingham.

Match reaction 19th July 2008
Queens fought out a well earned 1-1 draw against Owen Coyle's Championship League Burnley this afternoon and it was no less than they deserved. Twice the visiting keeper pulled of great saves to deny firstly Craig Barr then trialist Gary Arbuckle but a bad defensive slip-up in the Queens' defence just before half time gifted the Turf Moor men the opener.

No fewer than 15 substitutes were sent on by the respective sides in the second half and Stewart Kean was denied by keeper Jensen yet again. But 10 minutes from time Kean headed home a Stephen Dobbie corner after a neat dummy from Paul Burns for that deserved equaliser.

Queens had three trialists on show--Michael McGowan and Gary Arbuckle (both from Clyde) and keeper Cameron Bell (an Annan lad who was with Kilmarnock).

Said Gordon Chisholm afterwards, "It was a really good workout against top quality opposition and had it not been for their keeper we could well have won. However, I'm not complaining! When a team like Burnley go ahead it's never easy to get back into the game. But we did, and I'm delighted with the positive attitude we showed".

Burnley had just got back from America on Thursday after games against Carolina Rail Hawks and Minnesota Thunder and their manager, Owen Coyle added, "It's nice to be back in Bonnie Scotland again. I was pleased with our overall performance and I thought we looked pretty sharp. We scored a terrific goal but conceded a very soft one near the end. Our keeper pulled off a couple of quality saves and don't forget Queen of the South were Scottish Cup finalists and are very a good team".

Attendance 1810. Travelling support 720.

A busy time ahead 16th July 2008
With two games played, eight goals scored and a couple of 'clean sheets' into the bargain, Gordon Chisholm is naturally very pleaed with his start to the season. Although they're only friendlies the manager added, "I was delighted with the results at both Annan and Ayr and I feel our build-up is progressing nicely. It's still 'early doors' but we've managed to keep it tight at the back, all the boys are getting a game and the fitness level is improving with every match. 'Dobbs' and Stewart Kean have scored in both but the real test will come this coming Saturday when we play hosts to Burnley.

"They finished in the top half of the Championship last season and Owen Coyle will be coming up himself and intends bringing practically a full first team squad with him.

"After that it's another friendly against Queen's Park on Tuesday night before our season starts in earnest with a trip to Berwick in the Challenge Cup followed by a home game against Airdrie to kick-off our league campaign.

"We'll be featuring in three cup competitions during the month of August so it's going to be an extremely busy time. We've already brought in five new players to bolster our pool but we'll still need another keeper to keep Bryn Halliwell 'on his toes' plus two or three more bodies to complete our squad".

It's now 'all systems go' for Andy Aitken's testimonial match against the Annan Athletic 'All-Stars' at Galabank tomorrow night. However, an SOS call has gone out for a goalkeeper as Colin Scott can't be contacted. Gordon Hyslop, manager of the Annan Athletic XI, is also looking forward to the game and stated, "We've a lot of Andy's former team-mates from his Annan under-18 days turnining out--Kevin Proudfoot, Norman Montgomery and Jimmy Brown to name just a few. There's Davie Irons, himself an ex-Annan Athletic manager plus some 'old-timers' from the past--Stuart Dalglish, Tony Sibbring and even Keith Middlemiss. Keith actually played with Annan in the '80's, '90's and even in the 2000's".

Kick-off is at 7.30 pm with admission £7.00 for adults and £3.00 for juveniles.

On the following day Queens themselves will visit Galabank for the first of their four pre-season friendly matches and the Palmerston faithful will be looking forward to seeing the three new signings Stewart Kean, Gerry McLaughlan and Craig Barr in action. Gerry was actually named 'Man of the Match' at last season's Brewers Cup at Galabank even though his then team, Stranraer, lost to Queens in the final.

Said Annan secretary, Alan Irving, "We're looking for a good turnout and we'll be fielding our strongest team--after all we're playing the Scottish Cup finalists! We're all indebted to Queen of the South for their backing and support which helped us gain a place in the SFL and we bid a warm welcome to David Rae and his fellow directors, Gordon Chisholm and all his players and, of course, all the Queens' fans".

This game kicks-off at 1.30 pm.

Back to work again 9th July 2008
It was back to work again for the Queens' players last week and Gordon Chisholm was very pleased the shape they were all in. But the manager added, "They'd had only four weeks off so it's no more than I expected. However, there were some very tired legs come Friday.

"This week we're up at St Andrews. It gives us all a change of environment for five days and lets newcomers like Gerry McLaughlan, Stewart Kean and Craig Barr get to know the rest of the players better. Dundee United are up here as well, so there's plenty of activity.

"As you all know we require two keepers before the season starts in earnest so we have three very experienced goalies training with us this week. Ex Aberdeen man, Ryan Esson, has returned north again after a spell in England and he actually stayed in Dumfries last week and trained with us at Glasgow. And joining him this week are Bryn Halliwell, ex Clyde, Hamilton and St Johnstone and also Kevin Cuthbert who was also at McDiarmid Park for a spell.

"Jamie Adams has signed an initial loan deal through to December 31st and we'll review the situation after that. Both the Killie physio and 'Kerso' have checked him thoroughly and he's now fully recovered from that nasty injury. I'm delighted to get Jamie on board--he's young, he's strong and an excellent player into the bargain.

"We're down at Annan for our first pre-sason friendly on Saturday and I'm really looking forward to it. The town will really be buzzing at the moment after being admitted to the SFL last week and I'd like to offer my own personal congratulations to all at Galabank".

Queen of the South Viaduct 4th July 2008
Davie Rae officially opened the Queen of the South Viaduct this morning by unveiling the commemorative plaque. There were around 150 present including many cyclists all keen to test the new stage of the Maxwelltown Cycle path. Our Chairman insisted that, "The project was just like football itself--all down to teamwork and delegating responsibility".

Describing the past season he praised the manager, players and all the fans for making it so memorable and one that will go down in the club's 89-year history despite having it's highs and lows". Added the Chairman, "It's all about building bridges and we had to cross a few of those to get to the Scottish Cup Final. It's a great honor to be asked to open this viaduct especially now Queen of the South is a massive brand name, not only in Dumfries but throughout Scotland, Europe and all over the world, thanks to the recent media coverage".

Councillor Brian Collins, Chair of the South West of Scotland Transport Partnership welcomed all in attendance and thanked the vast list of people involved in the development of the project and pointed out that this was the first of 79 UK-wide to be completed. He praised Queens and added, "We're all so proud of the boost the club has given the town and the region as a whole".

Malcolm Shepherd, Chief Executive of Sustrans Connect 2 Project stressed, "What I saw today embodied everything good in the Community". While Anna Southhall, Chair of Living Landmarks and Vice-Chair of the Big Lottery complimented Queen of the South on a great season and said she was amazed at the wonderful scenery from the bridge itself and all around".

Even Dougie Doonhamer turned up for the opening and it must be said--he was on his best behaviour.

Congratulations 3rd July 2008
Major celebrations down Annan way can be expected this evening as the towns side were admitted to the Scottish Football League at the second time of asking. It's been long overdue but finally the superbly well run club has been given a chance to shine in the Scottish Football League.

This opens up the possibility of the closest local derby versus league opponents that Queens could ever realistically imagine with a mere 16 mile trip between the two towns.

Congratulations to everyone at Galabank and the numerous former Queens players who have all helped to make the transition from Carlisle and District Leagues in the 70's through sporadic Scottish Cup appearances, Southern Counties Championships, East League Championships and finally to the SFL proper possible.
Fellow players praise Andy 3rd July 2008
Former team-mates of Queens' defender Andy Aitken queued up to praise him this week as his Testimonial Match against Annan Athletic looms ever nearer.
Said Derek Townsley, "Andy and I go back a long way and he came on board at the start of my spell with Queens. Over the years we've always remained good friends and I rate him an honest lad and a good professional. He's also been a good servant to the club and thoroughly deserves this Testimonial Match. Turning out for him next Friday is the least I can do!"
Added Palmerston legend Tommy Bryce. "Andy was just a young boy when I played with him but he matured very quickly and came on in 'leaps and bounds'. Nowadays it's quite an achievement to spend 10 years at a club, even though he had a short break away at Gretna. However he's been a loyal servant to Queens and I'm honoured to turn out for him".
Steve Bowey was also full of praise for the 'Annan Lad' and 'Bowser' stated. "Andy's a great pro--well liked and well respected in the game. He's got class and quality, he's also reliable and never lets you down. He's 'down to earth' and a pleasant, canny lad into the bargain. I'm taking it as an honour to be asked to play in his Testimonial game and really looking forward to it".
Said George Rowe, "I'm in the unique position in that I played alongside Andy at Queens, was later his manager for a year and a half then played against him after I left Palmerston. In all three instances he came through as a hard-working professional. With Andy Aitken you get what you see--he's straight, he's direct and always gives his best. I'm delighted to turn out for him next week".
Another 'Geordie', Paddy Atkinson (now manager at Benfield) commented, "Andy's a dedicated footballer and this match is a deserved reward for his services to Queen of the South. He started with them as a youngster and has developed into a most experienced defender. He's popular with the fans and I'm sure they'll turn out for him in great numbers for his big occasion".
Said Craig Flannigan, "I'll always remember Andy as one of the original batch of 'Skillseekers' who joined Queens in 1996. He's been a credit to the club over the years and came back from a terrible cruciate injury to regain his first team place. He's just helped Queens to an outstanding season and earned himself a new deal into the bargain".
Although born and raised in Dumfries, Annan is now Andy's adopted home and has stayed there now for many years. Stressed Annan Athletic club secretary Alan Irving, "I've known Andy Aitken since he was a young lad and he played for me in the Under-18 team down here. He's a model professional and a player any youngster could look up to. He has the right attitude and application and also looks after himself off the park. That's why he's still a force in the game".

The match takes place at Galabank next Friday, 11th July, with a 7.30 pm kick-off. Admission is £7.00 with £3.00 for juveniles. The squad for Andy's All-Stars is as follows: Colin Scott, Paddy Atkinson, Derek Anderson, Jon Crawford, George Rowe, Des McKeown, Derek Townsley, Steve Bowey, John O'Neill, Craig Flannigan, Rowan Alexander, Steve Mallan, Tommy Bryce, Brian McLaughlin and, of course, Andy Aitken himself.

Davie kept busy 2nd July 2008
Since the Cup Final our Chairman, David Rae, has become somewhat of a celebrity, being approached to attend meetings and functions all over the area. And on Friday morning he's been asked to perform the official opening ceremony of the Queen of the South Viaduct--the latest extension to the Maxwelltown Path--so popular with walkers and cyclists alike.

In recent weeks he's been to present trophies and medals at the Guid Nychburris football 5-a-sides, Sanquhar Academy Sports, Elmdale Primary School and right on his very own doorstep at Hightae itself.

On top of that he's been along to open the Kirkmahoe Gala Day at Duncow Playing Field and has even been the guest speaker at both the local Rotary Club and at the AGM of the St Andrew's First Aiders.

It must be great to be famous Mr Chairman!

Another new signing 26th June 2008
Queens today signed former Gretna defender Craig Barr. The 21-year-old is equally at home in the right-back role or in central defence and put pen to paper on a two year contract at Palmerston this afternoon.

Craig hails from Edinburgh but moved south as a 16-year-old to join Blackburn Rovers and spent almost three years with the Lancashire club. He then signed for Gretna and was a regular with the Raydale side playing right up to their final game last season.

Said Craig just after signing, "I'm really looking forward to the move. Queens are coming off the back of a fantastic season and I'm excited at the prospect of playing for the Scottish Cup finalists. I know big Neilly MacFarlane, Jamie McQuilken and 'Tosher' from my time at Gretna and also have a lot of respect for ex-Queens player, big Derek Townsley, who I also know well".

Craig can only recall playing once against Queens during his two year spell at Raydale but admits, "It's a game I'd rather forget! Queens beat us 3-0 at home that afternoon and that was to be the start of our downfall".

This now takes our tally of signed players to the 15 mark and training commences in earnest at Glasgow Green on Monday. The following week the squad heads for St Andrews for four days before their first pre-season friendly against Annan Athletic at Galabank on the Saturday.

Andy's Testimonial arrangements 25th June 2008
It may be Andy Aitken's Testimonial Year but nothing seems to be running smooth for the popular Queen of the South defender. Owing to the club's participation in firstly the Scottish Cup semi-final, followed by the Cup Final itself, two Testimonial Dinners have already had to be cancelled but a date in October has been provisionally pencilled in--so here's hoping it will be third time lucky.

The latest headache for the 'Annan Lad's' organising committee is the Am-Am golf tournament which was arranged for Sunday, 31st August. With Queens now playing in the UEFA Cup their scheduled league fixture with Dundee at Palmerston has been moved to that same day and the new date for the golf Am-Am at the Dumfries and Galloway club is now Sunday, 21st September.

Said Andy himself, "We've been the victims of our own success and my organising committee could never have envisaged so many problems arising--but we're getting there".

The next event on the calendar is a football match at Galabank between 'Andy's All-Stars' and Annan Athletic themselves. Many former Queens' favourites from the late 1990's and early 2000's will be taking part and the game will take place on Friday, 11th July, with a 7.30 kick-off. Admission will be £7.00 with £3.00 for juveniles. This is not to be confused with the game taking place the following day between Queen of the South and Annan Athletic which is a pre-season friendly.

It is also hoped that a special Testimonial Match for Andy can be arranged against a top English side in the not too distant future.
