FAN PROFILE

Schoolteacher Ian Raffel is this weeks fan of the week. Ian is presently exiled in Northampton, having found his way there by way of Edinburgh, Leeds, Gloucester and Swindon. He claims to have served his travelers apprenticeship from following Queens home and away in earlier years. Remarkably after being away from Dumfries for so long the things he misses most are his mates mums breakfasts and a bag of XL cheese crisps.

In terms of footballing memories, Ian states his all time favourite player as current boss Rowan Alexander who he reckons was a "cheeky wee striker who always worked his socks off". The games he regrets missing most were the two against Ayr in the Scottish Cup in 1976, the 2-2 draw at Somerset where Bally played with a broken leg and the 5-4 victory in the replay at Palmerston where former coach Graham McLean took over in goals.

Ian's lists his current favourite player as "Tommy Bryce, from last season", who he reckons could always be relied upon to produce something special. His most memorable match is the Challenge Cup final last year when, he says, "Anyone who wasn't emotionally charged among those 5,000 Queens fans must have been dead".

Thanks for that Ian, it brings back some good memories for those thirtysomethings amongst us.
