FAN PROFILE

Exiled in Edinburgh is forty eight year old Dalbeattie "lad" and Banker Alex Bomphray. Alex has supported Queens since he was sixteen, he says that he was hooked after his first three games, 6-1 versus Queens Park, 4-2 versus Dumbarton and 7-4 against Albion Rovers. Andy Thomson is his all time favourite player because of his goalscoring feats and, obviously Alex is a man who appreciates attacking players as he reckons that Stevie Mallan is just about his favourite current player mainly due to his all out effort and "refusal to hide when the chances, (and there are usually plenty), are missed".

For a man of Alex's vintage his two all time great games, come as no surprise, the 5-4 Scottish Cup replay win against Ayr United and the 6-0 second leg demolition of a high flying Dundee side in the League Cup, a certain Mr Strachans last game for Dundee before being transferred to Aberdeen.

The game that he wishes he had been at was another midweek late seventies game, this time against Hearts when Queens had fallen 3-0 behind but came back to rescue a draw with a last minute equaliser.

The remainder of this weeks profile is in Alex's own words:, "The Caley Thistle game in the League Cup at the start of this season was my 400th home game, Forfar away was my 393rd away game, so I hope to reach 400 away games this season. When Queens played Dundee United at home in the Cup a few seasons back I'D seen Queens home and away against every Scottish side, but with the advent of new grounds I've not seen them at McDiarmid, Shyberry Excelsior, New Bayview,(nor has anyone else), or Ross County. Ross County are the only Scottish team I've never seen. I'm not overly hopeful of getting to the cup tie, (Family commitments), but maybe I'll manage the replay if required". (NOTE:-Maybe now the re-scheduled date next Saturday Alex).

"In 1985 I also completed going to every league ground in Scotland and England when I went to Southampton versus Aston Villa, I received various newspaper and radio coverage, together with a mention in the Queens programme, (Versus Albion Rovers 20/04/85 - I've still never seen it), and over the next couple of years I tried to keep on top of things by going to the first game at Scarborough, versus Wolves and at St Johnstone, versus Clydebank, (Including Tommy Bryce and Jimmy Robertson) and also to Scunthorpe United's new ground, but married life with children didn't allow me to keep it up and there are at least half a dozen English grounds I haven't been to now."

"I used to go to the occasional game with recent "Fan Profile" Ian Raffel and to may games with my good friend and current Papua New Guinea resident Alan Cowan, (Member of the International Supporters Club and apparently coming home soon)."
