Queens recorded their first away win of the season today in defeating East Fife 1-0 in the Second Division encounter at New Bayview.

It was a battling performance from a young Queens side which saw Jamie McAllister restored to left back and Andy Aitken pushed into the centre of defence to partner George Rowe. Other changes to the team included the inclusion of new signing Gary Russell who looked impressive in his midfield role and almost scored a debut goal late on in the match with a curling 25 yard effort.

On the whole Queens deserved the three points, the defence was solid with Jamie McAllister impressing and always posing a threat in any deadball situation, in particular in the 80th minute when he forced the keeper to save well from an accurately placed free kick. David Mathieson once again underlined that he was back to his best with a string of top class saves which he topped off with a one handed save from a Barry Moffat penalty kick in the 50th minute after Andy Aitken was adjudged to have committed a foul in the box.

Queens goal was well executed but also assisted by a poor pass back, Andy Aitken played a well weighted ball through which veteran Fifer Ronnie Coyle couldn't manage to control properly and which Alex Nesovic was only too pleased to collect and round the keeper to tap the ball into the net.

The Fifers tried to come back but with a robust midfield, solid defence and David Mathieson on top form there was no way back for the men from Methill.

Acting manager George Rowe was more than pleased with the teams performance, which gave us our first away win since defeating Forfar in the League last April the 18th. Hopefully this will encourage the team and we can now start our climb back up the table, facing a mere four point gap before we overhaul East Fife.
