MATCH SUMMARY
Iain Scott went with a fairly strong starting line up today with a similar strength Hibs side being the visitors. The front line today was McNiven and O'Neill with Brian McLaughlin drifting in from wide left to help the front two. On the other flank Stephen Payne and Eric Paton combined superbly well once again and the heart of midfield was the domain of McColligan and Lovell. Defensively Paton, Carr, Reid and English look as strong as any line up we could have and in particular Chris Carr looked composed and assured throughout the game. Richie Barnard returned to goals following his precautionary omission on Wednesday at Annan.

There was a minutes silence today in memory of former Chairman and life long Queens fan Bill Jardine who passed away earlier this week - it was impeccably observed.

The game itself was a well contested affair, Queens looked the hungrier of the two sides and if it hadn't been for some very sharp defending on the part of the Hibs back four then it would have been a deserved victory for the home side. As it was the Hibs defence managed to just about cut out all the threats that Queens posed and a draw was a respectable result.

Queens almost snatched an early lead in just ten minutes as John O'Neill - tight onto the bye line- played the ball back to Stephen Payne who in turn fed David McNiven - his cross was met by Stuart Lovell as he raced into the box and rose high - not high enough though as his effort flew over the crossbar. Three minutes later and again Queens came close as McNiven fed McLaughlin in on the left, 'wee Brian's' effort was unlucky to stay out of the net as it floated over Nelson's head. Queens continued to press and both McNiven and McLaughlin were unlucky to have efforts blocked away.

Barnard blocks with his feet
As the half progressed Hibs became stronger and Sam Morrow was denied by a superb Barnard block after Brian McColligan slip let the young front man in. Derek Riordan was similarly unlucky as a deep cross from the right was struck first time but could not get past Eric Paton.

That should put him off Richie!
The half ended with Queens trying to walk the ball into the net as the young defenders of the Edinburgh club just managed to keep the Dumfries forwards at bay.

The second half saw only one change with Brian Reid, who suffered a slight knock in the first half being replaced by Gary Wood. The highlight of the first half had been the linking play between Brian McLaughlin and John O'Neill - two quality players who seem to have struck up an immediate understanding. This continued into the second half.

Substitution time began on sixty minutes and McLaughlin was replaced by Willie Gibson, McNiven made way for Lyle on seventy minutes. Lyle looked well placed for a strike as Gibson elected to shoot himself and shortly afterwards the 'tan man' had a snap shot as he turned onto a through ball with the Hibees looking for an offside shout.

Payne heads an O'Neiil cross over the top
Brian McColligan then made way for Paul Burns on eighty minutes before Gary Caldwell almost won the award of mistake of the day as he managed to pass back under pressure form Stephen Payne. The free kick was played back but the well struck effort from Stuart Lovell was blocked away.

McNiven's header is held by Nelson
The next change was Scott Robertson coming on for Stephen Payne before the final change of Maxwell for Lovell was enforced upon Scott as Stuart Lovell picked up what looked a nasty injury in an innocuous challenge.

Queens will now look forward to the long overdue visit of English neighbours Carlisle United on Wednesday evening.
