Todays visit of Tommy Bryce's Partick Thistle brought the largest and most vocal away support for some time to Palmerston and with the inclusion in the Partick team of Des McKeown, David Kennedy and Craig Flannagan, there was an air of anticipation about the ground prior to the match.

Unfortunately however the first forty five minutes brought little for either sets of fans to cheer about, the game being largely confined to the midfield area, any chances that were made were easily dealt with by both of the fine young goalkeepers on show.

The second half was a much more lively affair, with Queens manager Rowan Alexanders half time pep talk obviously paying dividends as the Doonhamers started the half in a much more purposeful manner. The bulk of the half was taken up by Queens pressurising the home defence, Mark Weir who had been silenced in the first half by David Kennedy, persisted with his direct running and soon became the main channel for Queens forward threat. Ken Eadie joined Stevie Mallan up front at half time in place of the hard working Brian Caldwell and soon the experience of Eadie was allowing more to be created around the edge of the box.

The best chance of the game came from a solo run and shot by Mark Weir, as he homed in on goal and struck his shot goalward the Partick keeper made a tremendous diving save, the ball fell to Leslie and his shot seemed certain to find the back of the net but somehow keeper Arthur managed to knock the ball down and smother it as Bailey homed in. Queens forced a number of late corners and free kicks from around the box but could find no way past the Partick defence.

Partick created a couple of close things, the best from a Craig Flannigan cross which Paul Tosh only just failed to connect properly with.

That makes it Queens third home draw on the trot but seven games since our last win, Tommy Bryce will undoubtedly be the happier manager tonight as his run of seven straight league defeats has come to an end.
