Queen's today lost their recent unbeaten record in going down 2-1 to bottom of the table Forfar Athletic. The match was characterised by the strong wind which manager George Rowe felt Forfar adapted better to.

With the wind at their backs Queen's played the first half making a number of chances, in total nine corners fell to the men from Palmerston but basic bad luck and, it has to be said, some fine goalkeeping kept Queen's at bay. Forfar, in their first attack of the match put the ball in the back of the net when Nairn finished of a neat move that found the Queen's defence asleep.

The remainder of the first half was played out with Queen's forcing the play and having a number of penalty claims turned down by referee Mr Clyde. Forfar keeper Moffat made a splendid save from a Jamie McAllister free kick late in the half to keep the scoreline intact at 1-0.

In the second half the pattern was pretty similar with Queen's dictating the play but having no luck in finishing. This suited Forfar who took the opportunity to break away and score a second through impressive teenager McLean on seventy minutes.

Queen's continued to press and eventually had the ball in the net with co-manager George Rowe scoring his third in three games in the eighty third minute to give Queen's a glimmer of hope. There just wasn't enough time left and the match ended 2-1.

The good news is that results elsewhere couldn't have been much kinder with Queen's amazingly retaining fourth spot in the league. The gap to a dreaded relegation place has however shortened to only four points so it's still all to play for.
