Tickets selling well in Denmark 6th August 2008
My counterpart Kris from Nordsjaelland was in contact today and very pleased at how well tickets were selling for our UEFA Cup clash over there. More than 500 have already been snapped up by Queens' fans but there's still about 1000 more available if required.

However, he did emphasize that six other sides from Denmark are involved in Europe so there would be no more than 100 of their fans coming over and no journalists at all.

He did add that the Nordsjaelland players and officials were willing to be at the Excelsior Stadium for a Press Conference on the day before the match if required. One of their most avid fans has a nephew in Glasgow and it's been suggested that he should be their official mascot that night.

    Heading Home 1st August 2008
Sitting in Gatwick Airport with flights on my mind after today's draw, for which we would like to thank David Taylor and his colleagues at UEFA for their hospitality and efficiency.

I have spoken with TMG, our official travel partner, and we are aiming to have a club package available for early next week. We will have a meeting tomorrow to finalise a few details with the club party and aim to get the prices out to fans as soon as possible. As it stands, the official plane will be flying out with the team aboard on Monday morning and returning after the game on Tuesday. Everything is yet to be finalised though, so watch this space.

We're looking forward to working with FC Nordsjaelland, whom we met today and whom were extremely prompt at arranging away ticket allocations and pricing - which makes life easier for the club and the supporters.

    Denmark bound 1st August 2008
For our opening sojurn in the UEFA Cup Queens will travel to Denmark to take on FC Nordsjalland, but before that we will meet the Danish side at home. We'll be competing in the Northern Section and our first game will be played at Airdrie on Thursday, 14th August and the return on the 26th August and not the 28th as was first muted as two other sides from Copenhagen are playing on the 28th.

It will be a journey into the unknown but Gordon Chisholm said, "We knew earlier what pot we'd be in, so it didn't come as too much of a surprise. We were aware we'd be up against a side from Denmark, Sweden or Finland.

"Just after the draw was made it was pandemonium--my phone never stopped ringing. I would have preferred the first leg away but it wasn't to be. It's will be an adventure for us all--it will be difficult but not unwinnable. We'll prepare professionally and do our research. I notice Nordsjalland are playing on Sunday, Wednesday and Sunday, so I'll be doing my utmost to get out there to Denmark and see them for myself. As I say, it won't be easy but we're confident and we'll be give it our best shot".

First steps into Europe 31st July 2008
Queen of the South took their first steps into Europe today, when Davie Rae, Craig Paterson, Billy Hewitson and myself made our way to Geneva.

We arrived safely into the scorching heat of Geneva this afternoon, and are in keen preparation for tomorrow's draw in Nyon.

I've been working hard on the logistics for the campaign, and myself and the Chairman will be concentrating on securing the best allocation for our travelling fans, as well as making sure we offer the hospitality expected of Scottish clubs to our opponents.

The draw tomorrow is at 1'o'clock Swiss time, and you should be able to watch the draw on satellite tv or on the internet.

We'll be heading straight back after the draw, and the Chairman has already been telling us that he had flying lessons shortly after he retired from farming - so should there be a problem with our flights, there's no way we'll be missing the Airdrie game!

UEFA Cup Draw 25th July 2008
Remember that the draw for the UEFA Cup Second Qualifying Round will be held on Friday 1st August. The draw is scheduled to take place at 12.00pm and you should be able to watch it as it happens on the UEFA website at www.uefa.com.
    Travel arrangements 17th June 2008
Queen of the South's entrance into the 2nd Qualifying Round of the UEFA Cup next season represents a great opportunity for the club, but also for many of our supporters to experience competitive football abroad for the first time.

As a stalwart of European excursions with the Scotland team, I understand the intricacies required in such a trip, and want to ensure that the experience is an unforgettable one for our fans. I realise there will be a lot of pressure on the support - with the draw being made on the 1st August and the legs played a few weeks after, money and time away from work/family commitments will be crucial in most people's decision to travel.

The club have partnered with TMG, a market leader with many years of experience in catering travel packages for clubs from Manchester United to Dunfermline Athletic. It is the club's desire to offer a package that will allow for safe and reliable passage at as reasonable a price as possible to ensure this. In this regard, we are delighted to be working with TMG, who have a long and proven track record in helping football fans travel efficiently and safely across the globe.

Working with an organisation of TMG's size ensures we can make travel arrangements as close as possible to the draw being made in Nyon - which with the potentially short period between the draw and first leg, will be of great benefit to the club and supporters alike.

Through TMG, Queen of the South will be making travel arrangements available (that will include accommodation and travel) directly to fans wishing to support the club in Europe. As the details of our European opponent will be unknown until the 1st August, we can't offer any kind of package yet, as details regarding the availability of tickets, flights and accommodation are unknown.

We have however set up an official UEFA cup travel page (http://www.tmgsport.com/qos/index.html) to which I would kindly ask all supporters with an interest in travelling to register. Providing us with the small amount of information required at the moment can be extremely helpful to us catering the arrangements to your needs and keeping you up to date with all the latest arrangements.

Another friendly arranged 3rd June 2008
Queens today arranged another pre-season friendly with a match against Annan Athletic at Galabank on Saturday, 12th July. Kick-off is at 1.30pm. This is the Saturday before our other friendy fixture against Owen Coyle's Burnley at Palmerston on 19th July. However, owing to our participation in the UEFA Cup, Queens will not be taking part in the annual Brewer's Cup tournament at Annan this year.

On the subject of the UEFA Cup it has been announced that the venue for our home games will be the Excelsior Stadium at Airdrie. We believe that Manchester City is one of a few big names who will enter the competition before us owing to the Fair Play awards. It now beggars belief to think that the third best supported club in the Premiership need a victory if they are to play Queen of the South.

    Bill Goldie
UEFA Cup Announcement 2nd June 2008
Since qualifying for the UEFA Cup, club officials have been working closely with both UEFA and the SFA to understand the infrastructure that has to be in place to fulfil European fixtures at Palmerston Park.

The primary reason is that everyone involved with the club would wish to play home games in Dumfries. There is also a strong desire to ensure that, following on from the extraordinary demand for Cup Final tickets, we can accommodate as many Queen of the South supporters as possible over the course of our UEFA Cup campaign.

As this competition is overseen by UEFA it is necessary that all participating clubs follow their regulations, one of which states:

"Matches can only be played before seated spectators; with any sector for standing spectators kept closed. Bench seating of any description is prohibited and will be regarded as standing accommodation."

Additionally, temporary stands are not permitted.

Following discussions, it has been determined that no dispensation can be granted concerning the use of standing terraces at Palmerston Park and the club accepts this position.

This does however, limit the capacity for games played in Dumfries to 3,500 seated spectators. This is further reduced through the requirement to provide additional media workstations in the Main Stand, the segregation of supporters and, to accommodate additional guests of the club - effectively limiting the number of Queens supporters to less than 2,800.

For this reason, we have been in talks with clubs to determine the feasibility of their hosting our 'home' fixtures. Noting the fact that playing a home fixture in another country is also not permitted, a major consideration during these discussions has been accessibility for Queen of the South supporters travelling from Dumfries and Galloway.

In conclusion, an agreement has been reached that we will play our home UEFA Cup fixtures at the Excelsior Stadium - home of Airdrie United. The stadium has a capacity in excess of 10,000 and, it is anticipated that this should satisfy the demand for tickets.

Our thanks go to Jim Ballantyne and everyone at Airdrie United for their accommodating approach to this arrangement.

Ticket details will be announced around the time of the Second Qualifying Round draw, which is currently scheduled for 1st August.

However it should be noted that priority for UEFA Cup tickets will only be given to season tickets holders, prior to a general public sale.
